Unable to start debugging on the web server. you do not have permissions to debug the web server process

Error when debugging a Visual Studio 2008 Web Application: Unable to start debugging on the web server. you do not have permissions to debug the web server process. You need to either be running as the same user account as the web server, or have administrator privilege.

Launch Visual Studio "As an administrator"
Solution Details:

Simply open Visual Studio 2008 as an Administrator.

  1. Right-click on the shortcut to Visual Studio 2008
  2. Select Run as Administrator

Solution Summary:
Set your project to "Use Visual Studio Development Server", instead of Using "IIS Web Server".
Solution Details:

To avoid having to launch Visual Studio as an administrator everytime, you can change your project setting to use Visual Studio Development Server instead of IIS Web Server.

  1. Launch Visual Studio and load your Web application.
  2. Double-Click My Project in Solution Explorer
  3. On the left side, click the Web tab
  4. Under Servers check the Use Visual Studio Development Server radio button.
  5. Save your project and try debugging.
